Oracle Database Administrator

Introduction:

Atlantic Information Systems, Inc. is a project management consulting firm located south of Boston in Pembroke, MA. Recently, one of our clients has requested that we locate a Database Administrator to join their organization.  Our client is an outstanding institution of higher education that enjoys an international reputation for excellence and innovation.

Position Title: Oracle Database Administrator

Location: Boston, MA Area

Position Type: Permanent

Work Status: Must be a US citizen or Green Card holder.

Position Overview:

Our client is seeking a highly qualified individual for an Oracle DBA position having strong technical competency. This position is primarily oriented to the physical aspects of a DBA’s role, and secondarily to applications support.

Position Responsibilities:       

* Perform typical Oracle DBA functions within a team of DBA’s. This would include installations, upgrades, installing patches, performance tuning & optimization, backup & recovery, etc.

* Participate in the ongoing evolution and improvement of Oracle database performance and uptime.

* Participate in identifying and implementing best practices for reengineering efforts, and for implementing these reengineering efforts to help ensure scalability.

Position Skills:

* Maintain a high degree of performance and integrity for all database software and University data.

* Should have at least 5 – 7 years hands-on Oracle Production DBA experience, preferably in large environments (1+ TB database)

* Should have solid experience with all traditional “physical” DBA responsibilities, including performance tuning, optimization and problem resolution.

* DBA applications support is a plus, but not required. Primary applications will include SAP HR & Financials.

* Experience with Oracle 10g desired, other versions acceptable.

* Experience with ADABAS on MVS, Microsoft SQL Server and/or DB2 a plus.

* Experience with Oracle on UNIX required, Linux preferred.

* Good interpersonal skills are the ability to work well in a team of DBA’s as well as cross-functionally required.

* Will be required to have extensive hands on knowledge with Oracle 9 & 10g application environments and supporting a 7x24x365 operation where on-call, escalation and participation in solving complex technical problems is a must.

*Experience in high volume/high availability environments including Disaster Recovery strategies and implementations a plus.

Education

BA/BS required. BS/MS in Computer Science or related field is a plus.
